How Rototom 2026 will tackle the heat and energy consumption

The 2026 edition will introduce specific measures to reduce fuel use and provide more rest areas during the hottest hours. The Pachamama, Jamkunda, Mágico Mundo and Mercado Artesano spaces will also serve as climate shelters thanks to their tree-lined areas, shaded surfaces and ventilated structures.

The organisers have readjusted the cultural programme to avoid the greatest heat exposure. Concerts will continue to run at night and into the early hours, while workshops, talks and non-music activities will be concentrated between the afternoon and the early evening. The site and camping areas also have 52 microfiltered water points, according to official festival information.

Rototom will also debut a hybrid system of deployable solar panels and industrial batteries at the Lion Stage and one of the camping areas. The festival expects it to cut fossil fuel consumption linked to the power generation covered by the installation by around 90%, with estimated savings of 3,000 litres and 7.7 tonnes of CO2. These are projections that will need to be checked against measured results after the edition.
