About the festival
FOCART is the urban culture festival organised by Avilés City Council, bringing together graffiti, mural art, urban sports and rap. Its most recent known edition took place between late October and 7 November 2025, and as of 14 October 2026 no edition has been announced for this year or for 2027.
A municipal festival that has changed its dates and its name
The name combines «foca» (seal) and «arte» (art), in memory of the seal that appeared in the Avilés estuary in the 1950s, which the city saw as a herald of industrialisation. The festival grew out of the agreements of the Council for the Economic Reactivation of Avilés and rests on three pillars: street art, urban sport and music, with free activities open to all.
Launched in 2021, its format has changed almost every year. In 2022, the second edition lasted nine days, from 25 June to 3 July, with the Liga Nacional de Graffiti at La Exposición, a mural by Paco Roca and Martín Forés at the González Abarca wash house and the Reggaeton Beach Festival next to the Centro Niemeyer. In 2023 it was concentrated into a single weekend in July at the La Exposición court, with night-time concerts, a skateboarding championship and a BMX exhibition. In 2024, its fourth edition, the City Council presented it as Sínter, with the Liga Nacional de Graffiti in the plaza de Pedro Menéndez from 28 to 30 June.
The 2025 edition: rap at the Casa de Cultura
In 2025, FOCART went back to its name and moved to the autumn. It kicked off on 29 October with two murals from the Liga Nacional de Graffiti on the bridge leading into the Llaranes neighbourhood, and its main event was on Friday 31 October at the Auditorio de la Casa Municipal de Cultura, from 18:00, with Camin (Granada), Dollar Selmouni (Madrid), Lopes (Galicia), Safree (Alicante) and local DJ Jotadejota.
Around the concert there were clothing customisation workshops, pieces by local artists at the Factoría Cultural and the restoration of the fourteen seals from the Enfocado project, placed in schools across the city. That edition's poster was designed by Galician illustrator Paula Cheshire, linked to the Jornadas Internacionales del Cómic de Avilés.
What we know about FOCART in 2026
No dates, programme or line-up have been published for 2026, and the festival's website, focart.es, only shows a maintenance notice. As the festival depends on the City Council and has already changed its dates and name before, a new edition could come with a different format. Its Instagram account is @foc_art_aviles.
