In short

  1. RADAR Madrid opens the week, but it is not an outing for the general public: from Monday 19 to Wednesday 21 it programmes more than 30 showcases in Madrid, and the two passes that give access are sold out.
  2. The Canary Islands host three events in four days: Starmus bows out on Thursday 22 on La Palma, Tenerife Peñón Fest takes over the Palmetum on the 23rd and 24th, and Ribs N Beats comes to Ofra on Saturday.
  3. Saturday 24 adds festivals in seven other provinces: Mutante in Palma from 12:00, The Lemon Twigs in Caravaca, Camela at Horteralia and the start of the Festival Flamenco Mediterráneo in Alicante, among others.
  4. The clocks go back in the early hours of Sunday 25: at 3:00 it becomes 2:00 again, so late-night finishing times and the last transport home are worth checking twice.

The week of 19 to 25 October begins with an industry gathering in Madrid and ends with a Saturday that spreads festivals from Palma to Alicante. In between, the Canary Islands account for much of the activity: a science and music festival that closes on La Palma and a rock and pop festival in Santa Cruz de Tenerife that splits its line-up across two very different nights.

This is the festival calendar with the times, venues and tickets published by the organisers as of this Sunday. Where there are no set times per artist yet, we say so.

RADAR Madrid, 19 to 21: showcases by pass only

RADAR Madrid holds its first edition from Monday 19 to Wednesday 21, with talks and daytime concerts in La Sala at the Movistar Arena and, on Tuesday and Wednesday nights, showcases at El Sol, Cadavra, Teatro Magno and Babylon. On Monday, Çantamarta opens at 19:00, Ángeles Toledano plays at 20:00 and Baiuca at 21:10; on Tuesday, Jorge Drexler plays at 13:00, and on Wednesday Tanxugueiras go on at 13:30 and Natalia Lacunza, by then in the early hours of Thursday, at 00:00.

The detail matters more than the line-up: RADAR works as a market for programmers and industry professionals and does not sell individual tickets. Its two passes, the General at €50 and the Experto at €100, are listed as sold out on the official website. The full schedule by venue is in our guide to the RADAR showcases and the format of the event in the RADAR Madrid profile. To see emerging bands in Madrid venues without a pass, the Radar Joven series is still running, with tickets at €7.

Canary Islands: Starmus closes on La Palma and Peñón Fest fills the Palmetum

Starmus devotes its final days to science. According to the official programme, the main talks continue from Monday 19 to Wednesday 21, from 14:00 to 18:00, at the Pirámide de Arona, and on Tuesday 20 there is a Star Party at 21:30 at a location the organisers have not revealed. Music returns on Thursday 22 at 19:00 with Space Station Earth, the closing concert, on La Palma. What happened at the opening and which ticket covers each event are in our article on the Starmus concerts and in the festival profile.

Tenerife Peñón Fest takes over on Friday 23 and Saturday 24 at the Parking Palmetum in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with two days of very different character. Friday is about guitars: Loquillo, Pignoise, Maika Makovski, Biznaga and Postcode. Saturday turns towards pop with Amaia, La La Love You, Carlos Sadness, Melifluo and San Tosielo. The official website has not yet published the opening time or the set times for each concert.

The official website links to sales of the two-day pass and of tickets for each day, in general admission and Front Stage. Prices, offers and rules for under-18s are in our day-by-day line-up guide and in the Peñón Fest profile. Tenerife Peñón Fest tickets on Tomaticket. ModoFestival may receive a commission if you buy through this link, at no extra cost to you.

A few kilometres away, in Ofra (La Laguna), Ribs N Beats brings Baby D and DJ Luck & MC Neat to the Parque José Segura y Clavell on Saturday 24, with nineties dance and UK garage. There are two conditions worth being clear about before buying: tickets, from €65, include a free bar, and only over-25s with a Spanish ID card or passport are admitted. More details in our Ribs N Beats preview.

Saturday 24: from Palma to Caravaca, Cáceres, Albox, València, Onda and Alicante

Festival Mutante (Palma). This is Saturday's longest day: Motorworld Mallorca opens at 12:00 and the music starts at 12:30 with the vermouth session, and the two band stages alternate so that no concert overlaps another. Sexy Sadie play at 21:00, Parquesvr at 23:15 and Baiuca close at 01:15; the electronic music in the Bassment continues until 03:00. Official sales still have the second tier, at €24.58, and the final tier, at €28.58. Set times by stage and how to get there are in our Mutante guide and in the festival profile.

Caravaca Power Pop (Caravaca de la Cruz). It begins on Friday 23 with a free day featuring 20/20, Brighton 64, Goodfellows and Mod Lang. On Saturday, with tickets at €25 in advance and €30 on the door, The Lemon Twigs headline, alongside Mi Vida Rosa, Airbag, Pyramidiacs and Los Marañones. The ticket listing gives doors at 19:00 and a start at 20:00, with no set times per band. We explain it in our Caravaca Power Pop preview.

Horteralia (Cáceres). The fairground opens on Friday at 20:00, with Ladilla Rusa at 00:30. On Saturday doors open at 16:00, Camela go on at 23:00 and Nebulossa at 01:00. Children under 12 get in free. The full schedule for both nights is in our Horteralia guide.

Rock Albox (Albox, Almería). The 41st edition brings together Kaos Urbano, Los de Marras, El Último Ke Zierre, Commando 9mm and La Re Polla at the Recinto Ferial from 20:00, with advance tickets at €15. Sales outlets and the door price are in our Rock Albox article.

Jardí Electrònic (València). An afternoon of house and electronic music at the Parc Urbà de Malilla, from 16:00 to 22:00, with Brieela, Pizzicatto, Ladrillovitz, Caballeri and Koseki. The organisers announced tickets from €8 and have not yet published each DJ's slot. Access and line-up are in our Jardí Electrònic article.

Fira d’Onda (Onda, Castellón). The fair wraps up its music programme: Orquesta Panorama play on Tuesday 20 in the Plaça Miralpeix and Orquesta La Tribu on Thursday 22. The weekend is reserved for the Recinte Multiusos d'Onda, with Álvaro de Luna on Friday 23 and Marta Santos on Saturday 24, both with general sale tickets at €20 plus fees and a €5 rate for registered residents. We sum it up in our guide to the Fira d’Onda concerts and in the Fira profile.

Festival Flamenco Mediterráneo (Alicante). The tenth edition of the Fundación Mediterráneo series opens on Saturday 24 at 20:00 at the Centro Cultural de Alicante with Pedro "El Granaíno" and his recital Granaíno jondo, with Miguel Heredia on guitar. Tickets cost between €14 and €20. It is the first of four shows running until 28 November, with the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía on the 7th, Encarna Anillo on the 21st and María Moreno on the 28th; a pass for the whole series costs €120.

Anyone looking for flamenco in Madrid can catch Suma Flamenca, which runs until 1 November with gala performances at eight venues across the region. We cover it in our Suma Flamenca guide.

The clocks change in the middle of Saturday night

On the night of Saturday 24 into Sunday 25, summer time ends: at 3:00 clocks go back to 2:00. Horteralia flags this in its own schedule, which extends Saturday until Sharonne and the closing set by Cherri Coke DJ. At festivals that finish in the early hours, such as Mutante, it is worth confirming with the organisers whether the closing times refer to the old time or the new one, and checking the last tram or bus home with the same care.

Beyond the festivals, the week also brings The Strokes at the Palau Sant Jordi on Tuesday 20, Fontaines D.C. on Thursday 22 at the Movistar Arena (tickets on Ticketmaster, with a possible commission for ModoFestival at no extra cost to you) and on Saturday 24 at the Sant Jordi Club, and Niall Horan on Sunday 25 at the Palau Sant Jordi.
