In short

  1. Geologist is the gig to secure first: he plays on Friday 13 at 22:30 in the Museo Picasso auditorium, with very limited capacity and advance tickets at €24.
  2. On Saturday 14 you can follow the programme from midday to midnight: two free concerts at La Coracha and the Centre Pompidou and, in the evening, the closing show with Nikka for €8 if you buy one of the first hundred tickets.
  3. Mala Gestión and Modelo de Respuesta Polar bring the songs, but they clash with Geologist on Friday and with Nikka on Saturday, so you will have to choose.
  4. No weekend pass has been announced: each paid concert has its own ticket sale, and at the Museo Picasso and the Antiguo Liceo the box office only takes cash.

Brian Weitz has spent more than two decades manipulating samples, field recordings and electronics in Animal Collective. Now, going solo as Geologist, he is presenting his first record of his own, and he will do so in Málaga on Friday 13 November, at the centrepiece concert of the Music Weekend with which Moments Festival closes its thirteenth edition.

From Thursday 12 to Saturday 14, the festival spreads eight concerts across six venues in the city, from the Museo Picasso and the Centre Pompidou to music venues such as the Classic Malagueta and the Core. The mix is unusual: experimental electronics and sound poetry in museum auditoriums alongside two pop and indie bands of the kind you would see in a club. These are the times, the prices and what is free, according to the programme published by Moments.

Geologist at the Museo Picasso: Friday 13 at 22:30

The Geologist concert will take place in the Auditorio Christine Ruiz-Picasso at the Museo Picasso Málaga, with access from calle Alcazabilla. Doors open at 20:30, sound artist Ilaria Degradi performs at 21:00 and Geologist comes on at 22:30. Degradi works with field recordings made in abandoned places, which she then transforms with synthesisers, a starting point close to Weitz's own.

The record he is bringing is Can I Get a Pack of Camel Lights?, built around the hurdy-gurdy, the crank-operated bowed string instrument, which Weitz blends with synthesisers, distortion and field recordings. Anyone expecting Animal Collective songs will not find them: the festival describes a live show of drones and textures, closer to psychedelia and krautrock than to conventional song form.

Advance tickets cost €24 and, if any are left, €30 in cash at the box office. Moments stresses that capacity is very limited and presents the date as Geologist's only performance this year in central and southern Spain; the shop selling the tickets adds that his other 2026 dates are in Galicia and Asturias. Thursday 12: modular workshop and poetry with electronics

The weekend starts before the big concerts. At 16:00, Caradusanto leads an introductory modular synthesiser workshop at MUCAC La Coracha, and at 18:00 the Drunk-O-Rama bar hosts listening sessions with Kike (Orina), Miguel (Alone Records) and Jorge (Goetia). The festival website does not say whether the workshop requires advance registration.

The evening belongs to Electroversos, at the Antiguo Liceo de Málaga at 20:00, with doors at 19:30. Three pairings of local poets and musicians premiere pieces created just for that night: Victoria O. Téllez with Víctor Cri du Chat, Faust with Mar Galera and La Patri with Miguel Seguí. Advance tickets cost €10 and box office tickets €15 in cash.

Saturday 14: two free daytime concerts and the closing show with Nikka

Saturday packs in five of the eight concerts and lets you string several together. At midday, structweird and Caradusanto play at MUCAC La Coracha from 12:30 to 14:00, with free entry until capacity is reached. The set is based on Diciembre, the split record the two released on the Málaga label Oigovisiones.

In the afternoon, the Centre Pompidou Málaga presents Music Komité, a trio from Cádiz and Sevilla who combine cello, violin, samplers and video in Hermosos perdedores, and Cravat. Entry is free, but you need to collect an invitation at the Pompidou itself from 15:00, with a maximum of two per person. The concert page lists it from 17:00 to 18:30, while the general programme PDF says 18:00, so it is worth checking the time before you go.

The closing show is Avant AV Live, again in the Museo Picasso auditorium. Doors open at 19:30; at 20:00 Sole Villalba and Belén S. Guzmán perform Dentro, a piece of music and verse; at 21:00 comes LaCruz, a staged poem with sound and visuals; and at 22:00, Nikka. Mónica Muñoz, her real name, works with Buchla and Moog synthesisers and field recordings, has played Sónar, Eufònic and LEM, and returns to perform in Málaga more than four years on. The first hundred tickets cost €8; after that, the box office price rises to €15 in cash.

Mala Gestión and Modelo de Respuesta Polar bring the songs

The counterpoint to all this experimentation is at Sala Classic Malagueta, the former Sala Marte. On Friday 13 at 22:00 Mala Gestión play: the Valencian band are presenting Hacemos lo que podemos and already have 2027 dates at events such as the Festival de los Sentidos. Advance tickets cost €16 plus fees and box office tickets €20.

On Saturday 14 at 22:00, at the same venue, Modelo de Respuesta Polar celebrate ten years of Dos amigos after the break the band themselves admit to having taken. Advance tickets cost €26 plus fees.

The timings force a choice. On Friday, Geologist starts at 22:30 and Mala Gestión at 22:00, in another part of the city. On Saturday, Nikka and Modelo de Respuesta Polar start at the same time. Earlier, at 19:00, Sala Core celebrates the 20th anniversary of the Drunk-O-Rama with Los Pólipos and Waldo Faldo, with tickets at €20 from the bar itself or by email and €25 at the box office.

What is free, what you pay for and where to buy

Moments has not announced a pass for the Music Weekend: each paid concert is bought separately. Geologist, Electroversos and the closing show are sold through the Staf Magazine shop linked from the festival website; Mala Gestión and Modelo de Respuesta Polar through Crash Music. The structweird and Caradusanto concert is free, with first-come, first-served entry, as is the Music Komité and Cravat concert, by invitation.

Adding up the advance prices, seeing Geologist, the closing show and Modelo de Respuesta Polar costs €58 excluding booking fees, although the last two clash. For the rest of the month in the city, the Málaga festival listings and the November festival listings include the confirmed dates.
