Flamenco festivals in Spain

Andalusia is home to nearly half of the festivals featuring flamenco, with Sevilla, Cádiz and Jaén leading the way, but the genre also appears in Girona, Huesca, Segovia and Madrid. Most combine it with pop on wide-ranging line-ups; only a few programme it exclusively, such as the Festival de Jerez, which usually takes place between February and March, or Castillo del Cante de Ojén, in August.

July is the month with the most events. Another strand blends flamenco with folk and world music, such as La Mar de Músicas in Cartagena or Murcia Tres Culturas, in May.

In Sevilla, flamenco is spread throughout the year: Río Suena Fest, in Palomares del Río, usually takes place in June; Noches de la Maestranza, in September, and Lolailand, in October. In Cádiz, Jerez adds a second festival, the Tio Pepe Festival, and Chiclana de la Frontera has the Concert Music Festival; both mix flamenco and pop.

Outside Andalusia, the genre mainly features at summer festivals with mixed line-ups. Cap Roig Festival, in Calella de Palafrugell (Girona), runs between July and August, and SoNna, in Huesca, stretches from July to September. Inland, Letur Alma usually takes place in July in Letur (Albacete), and Alma Music Festival is based in Almadrones (Guadalajara).

The Festival Internacional de Guitarra de Madrid, between May and June, brings together flamenco, folk and classical music, and Etnosur Alcalá la Real (Jaén) blends it with jazz and folk in July.
