In short
- Moscow Death Brigade play on Friday; Kaótiko and Tremenda Jauría on Saturday: the first day's line-up is completed by Kumpania Algazarra, Grande Amore and Rebeliom do Inframundo, and the second day's by Neomak, Sons of Aguirre & Scila and Kúspide.
- Set times for each band have not yet been published, but doors open at 20:30 on Friday and at 20:00 on Saturday, and the box office is open from 16:00 on Friday.
- Buying before 29 October is cheaper than waiting for the box office: a day ticket costs €27.50 including fees and a two-day pass €42.90, compared with the €30 and €49 that will be charged in Chantada.
- Camping is free and under cover, but places are first come, first served: it is in the sports halls of four primary and secondary schools, open from 16:00 on Friday, for tents only and with your wristband already exchanged.
Last year, for its 20th edition, Castañazo in Chantada stayed at home: a line-up of Galician artists that, according to the organisers, drew around 7,000 people over the weekend. The 2026 edition looks further afield again: among the ten bands at the 21st edition are Moscow's Moscow Death Brigade, Álava's Kaótiko and Madrid's Tremenda Jauría, who will play on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October under the roof of the Mercado Gandeiro de Chantada (Lugo). Dates, venues and tickets are on the Castañazo festival page.
It is organised by the Asociación Cultural O Castañazo, a non-profit organisation, and the programme is not limited to the evening concerts: during the day there are free activities around the town, from rural games to a tavern song contest, and on Saturday there is a magosto, the Galician chestnut festival.
Line-up by day: Moscow Death Brigade on Friday; Kaótiko and Tremenda Jauría on Saturday
The festival published the day-by-day line-up on 6 August. Friday 30 brings together four very different acts: Portuguese band Kumpania Algazarra, who mix folk with ska, reggae and Balkan music; Grande Amore, the solo project of Galician musician Nuno García Pico; the Galician-language rap of Rebeliom do Inframundo, who were formed in Ponteareas and are based in Vigo; and Moscow Death Brigade, who perform in balaclavas and blend hip hop, punk and electronica.
Saturday 31 leans more towards punk and rap metal, with a folk counterpoint. There is Kaótiko, the punk rock band from Salvatierra (Álava), who play the Alfarera Fest in Totana on Saturday 24. They are joined by Tremenda Jauría, who mix urban music, cumbia and punk with feminist lyrics and are already confirmed for EN VIVO 2027; the rap and metal of Sons of Aguirre & Scila, who return to Chantada three years on and will also play Iruña Rock 2027; Neomak, an all-female Basque group that started out with the trikitixa and tambourine and now mixes folk, electronica and pop; and Kúspide, a Galician punk rock, metal and rap band that earned its place by winning the Liorta Musical contest.
There will be no DJ between sets: instead Los Cuerdos de Atar will play, with home-made instruments and comedy songs. On Saturday, the Mekánica Rolling Band will also lead the crowd in a street parade from the centre of Chantada to the venue from 18:30. That night is also Halloween, and there are other options in our guide to Halloween festivals 2026.

Times: doors at 20:30 on Friday and 20:00 on Saturday
Eight days before the festival, the organisers have still not published when each band will play. El Progreso reported on 20 October that the set times would be announced shortly. What has been set are the entry times:
- Friday 30: box office from 16:00 to 02:00 and doors open at 20:30.
- Saturday 31: box office from 18:00 to 02:00 and doors open at 20:00, with the magosto at the venue at the same time.
Tickets bought online must be exchanged for a wristband at the box office, and showing the QR code on your phone is enough. With the wristband you can leave and re-enter as many times as you like, as long as you also scan it on the way out: otherwise you cannot get back in.
Before the concerts there are free activities, and many of them move this year from O Cantón, which is undergoing works, to the area around Praza da Paz. On Friday, the Xogos Bravús, rural challenges such as throwing chestnut burs or shelling maize, start at 17:00 for individuals and at 17:30 for teams. On Saturday, the children's show Ourizo Miúdo arrives at the Auditorio Municipal at 11:30 with Brais das Hortas, there is a vermouth session at 13:00 and the tavern song contest tours the bars from 15:00 to 18:15.
Tickets: €27.50 per day until 29 October and €30 at the box office
The difference between the €30 per day advertised on the official website and the "from €27.50" of online sales has an explanation: they are two different prices. The festival website lists the box office prices, while Woutick, the channel the organisers themselves link to, sells advance tickets, available until 29 October. These were the prices on 22 October:
- Advance two-day pass: €42.90 (€39 plus €3.90 in booking fees). Woutick sells it as "Abono Promoción VI".
- Advance Friday or Saturday ticket: €27.50 (€25 plus €2.50 in fees).
- At the box office: two-day pass, €49; day ticket, €30.
For both days, the advance pass costs €12.10 less than two separate tickets and €6.10 less than the box office pass. Anyone going for a single day saves €2.50 by buying early. Children under 12 go free. The festival's terms do not allow exchanges or refunds, and state that bad weather and schedule changes do not entitle you to a refund.
Inside the venue you can only pay with the cashless wristband: cash is not accepted at the bars, food stalls or merchandise stands, and there are no cash machines. You can preload it from the festival website or top it up at points around the venue, and any remaining balance can be reclaimed online from 4 to 11 November, so it is worth not throwing the wristband away.
Free camping in four school sports halls, first come, first served
The festival offers free, covered camping in two areas made up of the sports halls of four schools, open continuously from 16:00 on Friday 30 until 14:00 on Sunday 1 November. Both have toilets and hot showers, festival staff and a security guard at night:
- Zone 1, 900 metres from the venue, on the way out of town towards Monforte: the halls of CEIP Eloísa Ribadulla and IES Val do Asma, with 1,600 square metres of usable space.
- Zone 2, 1,200 metres away, in Lama das Quendas: the halls of CEIP Xoán de Requeixo and IES Lama das Quendas, with 2,500 square metres.
Capacity is limited and places cannot be reserved. To get in you must already have your wristband, so you need to go to the box office first; a single-day wristband is also valid. The rules are those of school facilities that children will be using again on Monday: tents only, no awnings or gazebos, no pegging them to the floor or stringing ropes between them, no fire, gas stoves or candles, no music and no pets, except guide dogs. You can bring food and drink in, and smoking is not allowed inside the halls.
For vans and motorhomes, Chantada has a municipal area in Sangoñedo park, next to the football pitch, less than ten minutes' walk from the venue along the riverside path by the river Asma. Wild camping is banned in the municipality, but sleeping in your vehicle is not.
Getting to the Mercado Gandeiro and what minors need
The venue is on avenida dos Pilos in Chantada, in the south of the province of Lugo and in the heart of the Ribeira Sacra. The bus station is 200 metres away. The nearest train stations are Monforte de Lemos, 30 kilometres away, and Ourense, 36 kilometres away, and the nearest airport is Santiago, around 100 kilometres away; Vigo and A Coruña airports are less than two hours away. There is a large car park next to the venue.
Children under 12 get into the concerts free. Up to the age of 16 they must be accompanied at all times by a responsible adult, with ID cards (DNI) or passports for both and an authorisation signed by their mother, father or legal guardian. Those aged 16 and 17 can attend unaccompanied, although they also need an authorisation signed by their mother, father or guardian. Both forms are on the festival website and are handed in at the box office, where minors receive a wristband that prevents them from being served alcohol.
You may only bring water into the venue in sealed soft plastic bottles of up to half a litre, and food for your own consumption wrapped in foil, cling film or similar, with no plastic tubs or closed containers. Animals are not allowed, except guide dogs. If you are looking for more events in the region, see our listings of festivals in Galicia.
