Rock festivals in Spain

Rock is one of the most widely represented styles on the calendar and appears in almost every province. Madrid and Alicante lead the way, followed by Barcelona, Valencia, A Coruña and Pontevedra. In Alicante, Villena stands out for its concentration of events, with Leyendas del Rock, Rabo Lagartija and Aúpa Lumbreiras!!.

The calendar is not limited to summer: May brings together almost as many events as July and August, with Viña Rock in Villarrobledo between April and May, or Extremúsika at the Recinto Hípico in Cáceres. In terms of style, rock overlaps mainly with pop and indie, and to a lesser extent with punk and metal, as at Azkena Rock Festival, in Mendizabala (Vitoria-Gasteiz).

Beyond the summer, rock remains active in autumn and winter. Inverfest spreads its concerts across the Teatro Circo Price, La Riviera and the Movistar Arena in Madrid from October to March; Purple Weekend takes over the Espacio Vías in León in December, and Lion Rock Fest the Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones in the same city in November. In February, Rockin’ Race Jamboree takes place in Torremolinos.

In Galicia, rock is split between the city and the rías: ExpoRock Festival is held at EXPOCoruña in March, Rock in Rian in Rianxo in August and Festival Revenidas Vilaxoán in September. In Ourense, Ou Yeah! Festival runs from June to October.

The side of rock closer to punk and metal has its own summer stops: Rock Imperium in Parque El Batel in Cartagena, Igualada Rock City at the Anfiteatre de Les Comes, and The Juergas Fest in Almería.
