About the festival
Castañazo 2026 takes place on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October under the roof of the Mercado Gandeiro de Chantada (Lugo), with Moscow Death Brigade on the first day and Kaótiko and Tremenda Jauría on the second. It is the 21st edition of a punk, rap and fusion festival that is also known as Castañazo Rock. Advance tickets cost €27.50 per day and €42.90 for the two-day pass until 29 October, and camping, in school sports halls, is free.
A community-run festival in the heart of the Ribeira Sacra
It is organised by the Asociación Cultural O Castañazo, a non-profit association from Chantada, and on Saturday it includes a magosto, the Galician chestnut festival, at the venue itself. The concerts take place at night, in the town's covered livestock market, and during the day the festival spreads across Chantada with free activities: rural games, a children's show, a vermouth session and a tavern singing contest around the bars.
The 2025 edition, the twentieth, was an exception: a line-up made up solely of Galician artists which, according to the organisers, drew around 7,000 people over the weekend. The 2026 edition brings in acts from further afield again, from Moscow, Portugal, the Basque Country and Madrid, while keeping its Galician share.
Line-up by day: Moscow Death Brigade on Friday; Kaótiko and Tremenda Jauría on Saturday
The festival does not single out any act above the rest and has not published the running order, so choosing a day comes down to style. Friday 30 is the most varied:
- Moscow Death Brigade, the Moscow group who perform in balaclavas and mix hip hop, punk and electronic music.
- Kumpania Algazarra, a Portuguese folk band with ska, reggae and Balkan music.
- Grande Amore, the solo project of Galician musician Nuno García Pico.
- Rebeliom do Inframundo, Galician-language rap born in Ponteareas and based in Vigo.
Saturday 31 leans towards punk and rap metal, with a folk counterpoint:
- Kaótiko, punk rock from Salvatierra (Álava). A week earlier, on Saturday 24, they play Alfarera Fest in Totana.
- Tremenda Jauría, a Madrid band that mixes urban music, cumbia and punk with feminist lyrics.
- Sons of Aguirre & Scila, rap and metal, back in Chantada three years on. They are also on the line-up for Iruña Rock 2027.
- Neomak, an all-female Basque group who started out with the trikitixa and tambourine and now blend folk, electronic music and pop.
- Kúspide, a Galician punk rock, metal and rap band who earned their place on the line-up by winning the Liorta Musical contest.
There is no DJ between concerts: instead Los Cuerdos de Atar play, with instruments they have made themselves and comic songs. On Saturday, the Mekánica Rolling Band sets off at 18:30 from the centre of Chantada on a street parade that ends at the venue. That night is also Halloween, with other options in the Halloween 2026 festival guide.
Times: doors at 20:30 on Friday and 20:00 on Saturday
As of 22 October there are no set times for each act; El Progreso reported on the 20th that they would be announced shortly. Entry times, however, are confirmed:
- Friday 30: box office from 16:00 to 02:00 and doors at 20:30.
- Saturday 31: box office from 18:00 to 02:00 and doors at 20:00, the same time as the magosto.
Tickets bought online are exchanged for a wristband at the box office by showing the QR code on your phone. With it you can leave and re-enter, provided you also scan it at the reader on the way out.
This year the daytime activities are concentrated around Praza da Paz, because O Cantón is undergoing works. On Friday, the Xogos Bravús, rural challenges such as throwing chestnut husks or shelling maize, start at 17:00 for individuals and at 17:30 for teams. On Saturday, the children's show Ourizo Miúdo comes to the Auditorio Municipal at 11:30, there is a vermouth session at 13:00 and the tavern singing contest makes its way around the bars from 15:00 to 18:15.
Tickets: cheaper until 29 October
Advance sales are on Woutick, the channel linked by the organisers, and close on 29 October. After that only the box office remains, at higher prices. Prices as of 22 October:
- Advance two-day pass: €42.90 (€39 plus €3.90 in fees).
- Advance Friday or Saturday ticket: €27.50 (€25 plus €2.50 in fees).
- At the box office: two-day pass, €49; day ticket, €30.
For both days, the advance pass saves €12.10 compared with two separate tickets and €6.10 compared with the box office pass. Children under 12 go free. No exchanges or refunds are accepted, and the terms make clear that neither bad weather nor schedule changes entitle you to a refund.
Inside the venue you can only pay with the cashless wristband: cash is not accepted at the bars, food stalls or merchandise stands, and there are no cash machines. It can be preloaded on the festival website or topped up at the venue, and any remaining balance can be reclaimed online from 4 to 11 November.
Free camping in four school sports halls
Camping is free and indoors, in two areas open without interruption from 16:00 on Friday 30 until 14:00 on Sunday 1 November, with toilets and hot showers:
- Zone 1, 900 metres from the venue, on the way out towards Monforte: the sports halls of CEIP Eloísa Ribadulla and IES Val do Asma, with 1,600 usable square metres.
- Zone 2, 1,200 metres away, in Lama das Quendas: the sports halls of CEIP Xoán de Requeixo and IES Lama das Quendas, with 2,500 square metres.
Capacity is limited, places cannot be reserved and you must already be wearing your wristband to get in, so the box office comes first. The rules are those of a school that reopens on Monday: tents only, no awnings or gazebos, no fires, stoves or candles, no music and no pets, except guide dogs. For vans and motorhomes, Chantada has a municipal area in Sangoñedo park, next to the football pitch, less than ten minutes' walk from the venue; wild camping is banned in the municipality.
Getting there and what minors need
Chantada is in the south of the province of Lugo. The bus station is 200 metres from the Mercado Gandeiro; the nearest train stations are Monforte de Lemos, 30 kilometres away, and Ourense, 36 kilometres away, and the nearest airport, Santiago, is around 100 kilometres away. There is a large car park next to the venue.
Up to the age of 16, minors must be accompanied at all times by a responsible adult, with ID or passport for both and an authorisation signed by the mother, father or legal guardian. Those aged 16 and 17 can enter alone, also with a signed authorisation. Both forms are on the festival website and are handed in at the box office, where minors receive a wristband that prevents them from being served alcohol.
The only things allowed into the venue are water in sealed soft plastic bottles of up to half a litre and food for personal consumption wrapped in foil or cling film, with no plastic containers. More events nearby in the festivals in Lugo listings.
