JazzTardor, the Lleida International Jazz Festival, is entering its final three weeks. Its 33rd edition began on 18 October at the Castell del Remei with Jim Snidero and this Saturday, 7 November, reaches the stretch featuring its international names: James Carter, Bruce Barth, Blue Lou Marini and Jonathan Stout. This year the festival also devotes several concerts to the centenary of John Coltrane and Miles Davis, both born in 1926.

James Carter and the Coltrane centenary

The Detroit saxophonist arrives with his organ trio, featuring Gerard Gibbs on Hammond B3 and Alex White on drums, for a repertoire dedicated to John Coltrane. Carter made his name on the New York scene in the early nineties and has shared the stage with musicians such as Wynton Marsalis and Lester Bowie. Anyone who can't make it to Lleida has another chance nearby: a day later, on Saturday 14, the same trio plays at the Festival de Jazz de Zaragoza.

The other big American name on the line-up is Blue Lou Marini, the long-standing saxophonist of The Blues Brothers Band, who shares the stage with Lluís Coloma on Saturday 21 at the Cafè del Teatre.

JazzTardor's free concerts

Six of the 14 remaining events cost nothing: the trio of Pau Lladó, Eloi Peralta and Joan Pere Arguimbau at the Institut d'Estudis Ilerdencs (14 November), The Reverend Hotfoot Jackson at La Pinta and Jonathan Stout in Bell-lloc d'Urgell (both on the 15th), the two jam sessions on Thursday 19 and 26 at the Cafè del Teatre, and Joana Cebolla's concert in La Pobla de Cérvoles (22nd). The jam sessions are the festival's tradition at the Cafè del Teatre, and this year they revolve around Miles Davis.

Tickets and prices

Paid concerts range from €12 to €21. At the Cafè del Teatre and the Espai Orfeó, advance tickets are between €2 and €3 cheaper than on the door. Concerts at the Auditori Enric Granados have a reduced price for holders of the LaTemporada Amic card. The festival website lists the points of sale for each concert: the Auditori sells through its online box office and the Cafè del Teatre through Codetickets. There are no affiliate sales for any of the concerts.

JazzTardor is one of the stops on the November jazz season, which this year also takes in the towns of Sevilla, JAZZMADRID, Málaga, Gijón, Lugo, Almería and Palencia.
