In short
- Both of Falla's dates have their own concert at the Gran Teatro Falla: David Palomar premieres his Requiem on Saturday 14, 80 years after the composer's death, and Javier Perianes closes the festival on Monday 23, the exact day of the 150th anniversary of his birth.
- The festival goes beyond classical music: Rodrigo Cuevas, María Rodés, the Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía with the Accademia del Piacere, Pinocho Detective and an afternoon of experimental electronic music at the Baluarte de la Candelaria share the programme with the orchestras.
- Thirteen concerts are free, all at midday or in the afternoon, although capacity is limited and seats cannot be reserved, so it is worth arriving early.
- Buying by 14 November gets you a 15% discount at the Gran Teatro Falla and La Tía Norica, where most tickets cost between €10 and €20; the most expensive is for Palomar's Requiem, at €35.
Manuel de Falla was born in Cádiz on 23 November 1876 and died in Alta Gracia, Argentina, on 14 November 1946. The Festival de Cádiz - Música Española has been held every November since 2003, coinciding with those two dates, and its 24th edition, from 13 to 23 November 2026, places them at the heart of the programme: the 150th anniversary of the Cádiz-born composer's birth shapes the main events of a programme spread across nine venues in the city, from the Gran Teatro Falla to the Museo de Cádiz. Dates, venues and tickets are on the Festival de Cádiz page.
The Junta de Andalucía, which organises the festival through the Instituto Andaluz de las Artes Escénicas y de la Música, presented the programme on 20 October and put it at 35 concerts and 20 premieres. The concert listings on the official website include 27 events with date, time and price; the PDF programme adds school performances, a composition course and the gathering of the Orquesta Joven de Andalucía. Tickets are already on sale.
From David Palomar's Requiem to Javier Perianes's closing concert: Falla's two dates
On Saturday 14 November at 20:00, marking 80 years since Falla's death, Cádiz flamenco singer David Palomar premieres «Réquiem a D. Manuel de Falla» at the Gran Teatro Falla, with music by Juan Pablo Otero and the Orchestra and Choir of the Universidad de Cádiz, conducted by Juan Manuel Pérez Madueño, according to Diario de Cádiz. It is the most expensive event of the festival: €12 to €35, with €6 seats in the gods for Carné Joven holders.
The festival closes on Monday 23 November at 20:00, in the same theatre and on the exact day of the anniversary. Huelva-born pianist Javier Perianes will play a programme made up entirely of works by Falla. Despite the symbolism of the date, it is one of the cheapest concerts at the Gran Teatro Falla: €6 to €12.
Between the two dates, Falla features in much of the programme. Soprano Ruth Rosique, from Sanlúcar, and pianist Juan Carlos Garvayo give a recital with commentary on Monday 16, «Manuel de Falla, entre el cante y el canto», on the links between flamenco and lyric singing. The Trío Arbós premieres «Concertante» by Jesús Torres on Saturday 21, commissioned by the festival and the Centro Nacional de Difusión Musical for the anniversary. And the Orquesta Joven de Andalucía, conducted by Juan Pablo Valencia, performs «Constelación Falla» on Sunday 22, with works by Laura Vega, Luciano Berio, Falla and Igor Stravinsky. Even O Sister!, who open the festival on Friday 13 at 20:00 at La Tía Norica, take Falla as their starting point: «A otra galaxia», a festival commission, brings together his world and that of the European avant-garde with the jazz of the 1920s and 1930s. The anniversary has already made its mark on other series, such as the Festival de Música Española de León, which gave particular prominence to Falla and Arriaga in September.
Beyond classical music: Rodrigo Cuevas, María Rodés, flamenco and electronica
The anniversary pushes this edition towards the classical repertoire: Diario de Cádiz sees it as somewhat more classical than recent ones, although without the major Andalusian orchestras, which are already touring with Andalucía Sinfónica. The rest of the line-up still mixes styles, and those who are not classical fans have plenty to choose from:
- Rodrigo Cuevas brings «Al pie del llar» to the Gran Teatro Falla on Saturday 21 at 21:00.
- María Rodés presents «Lo que me pasa» at the Teatro del Títere La Tía Norica on Friday 20 at 19:00.
- The Ballet Flamenco de Andalucía and the Accademia del Piacere share «Origen. La semilla de los tiempos», directed by Patricia Guerrero and Fahmi Alqhai, which explores the relationship between flamenco and Spanish early music. It is on Tuesday 17 at 21:00, at the Gran Teatro Falla.
- Tito Ramírez y Los Verdaderos Reales (Friday 13) and Pinocho Detective (Saturday 14) play at 22:00 at the Edificio Constitución 1812, the former Aulario La Bomba, as part of the collaboration with the Universidad de Cádiz's Campus Rock.
- Microclima, the experimental electronic music event, takes over the Baluarte de la Candelaria on Saturday 14 from 18:00 to 22:00, with Suso Saiz, Cidrón, Dalila and Ëgg, among others. It is the same venue where the main week of JazzCádiz opened in July.
- Jazz has two more dates at La Tía Norica: Cuarteto Fuerte, on Sunday 15 at 19:00, and Lucía Rey Quartet, on Sunday 22 at 18:00.
Among the remaining classical events, the Orquesta Barroca de Sevilla plays Vivaldi's «Las cuatro estaciones» on Thursday 19 at 19:00 at La Tía Norica, and the Compañía Etcétera brings «Soñando el carnaval de los animales» to the Gran Teatro Falla on Friday 20 at 21:00. Visitors coming from elsewhere during those days can combine it with Monkey Week, which takes place from 19 to 21 November in El Puerto de Santa María, across the bay.
