In short
- Axel Rudi Pell, Tyketto and Ambush are the first three names for the tenth edition: a German melodic heavy metal guitarist, an American hard rock band and a Swedish classic heavy metal group.
- The opening announcement leans more towards melodic hard rock than thrash, following a 2026 edition headlined by Overkill, Doro and Hardcore Superstar.
- No ticket needed: the festival is free once again, on Friday 9 and Saturday 10 July 2027 at Espacio El Plantío in Burgos, and the line-up will still grow.
Burgos's free metal festival already has its first bands for a milestone year. Zurbarán Rock has announced Axel Rudi Pell, Tyketto and Ambush for its tenth edition, which will take place on 9 and 10 July 2027 at Espacio El Plantío, again with free entry.
Axel Rudi Pell, Tyketto and Ambush: who's who
Axel Rudi Pell is the biggest name. The German guitarist has spent more than 35 years blending classic heavy metal with hard rock melodies, and in Burgos he will play with Johnny Gioeli on vocals, Bobby Rondinelli on drums, Volker Krawczak on bass and Ferdy Doernberg on keyboards. Rondinelli, who played with Rainbow and Black Sabbath, as Mariskal Rock points out, is the band's most direct link to the giants of the genre. The festival promises a set featuring songs from his latest album, Ghost Town (2026), alongside classics from his career.
Tyketto come from the United States, fronted by Danny Vaughn. Their debut, Don’t Come Easy (1991), includes ‘Forever Young’, the song many people know them for, and in 2026 they released Closer to the Sun, their sixth studio album according to the festival's website.

Ambush are the young blood. The Swedish five-piece, formed in 2013 and with Oskar Jakobsson on vocals, play eighties-style heavy metal in the vein of Judas Priest, Accept and Iron Maiden, and arrive with Evil in All Dimensions (2025), their most recent album.
A more melodic start than in 2026
The 2026 edition, the first at El Plantío, had Overkill, Doro and Hardcore Superstar at the top of the bill, with Overkill's thrash as the heaviest offering. The first three confirmations for 2027 point in another direction: two hard rock and melodic heavy metal acts with decades-long careers and a Swedish traditional heavy metal group. With three names it is too early to talk about the direction of the line-up, but the anniversary is starting with an eye on anthemic, chorus-driven rock.
The festival has not said how many bands are still to come or when the next batch will be announced. In 2026 it revealed names one at a time or in pairs, so the line-up is likely to be completed gradually. Everything confirmed will be added to the Zurbarán Rock page on ModoFestival.
Free, at El Plantío and with no tickets
Zurbarán Rock remains a free festival, organised by the Asociación Cultural Metal Castellae since 2016. There is nothing to buy or book: just head to Espacio El Plantío, on calle La Chopera in Burgos, on Friday 9 or Saturday 10 July 2027. There are no set times or day-by-day line-up yet.
Being free is what sets it apart most in a calendar in which other festivals' 2027 passes range from €45 plus fees to €189, according to our round-up of the prices of twenty 2027 passes. Anyone wanting to combine two metal events in Castile and León that summer has Z! Live in Zamora three weeks earlier, from 17 to 19 June.
