Metal festivals in Spain

Metal almost always comes hand in hand with rock, and its calendar is concentrated between May and August, with June the most common month. Zamora and Alicante are the provinces with the strongest presence: in Zamora, Z! Live Rock takes place at IFEZA and Vintoro in Toro; in Alicante, Villena hosts both Leyendas del Rock and Rabo Lagartija.

The rest of the map ranges from Azkena Rock Festival, at Mendizabala (Vitoria-Gasteiz), to Rock Imperium, in Parque El Batel in Cartagena, both of them rock and metal festivals.

Beyond that core, metal has events in spring, summer and autumn. Extremúsika opens the calendar between April and May at the Recinto Hípico in Cáceres, and Koba Live, in Durango (Bizkaia), usually takes place in May. In the height of summer, Alterna Festival brings the genre to El Bonillo (Albacete) in July and Igualada Rock City takes over the Anfiteatre de Les Comes in August.

The season continues after the summer. Flores Rock takes place in A Coruña in September and Lion Rock Fest closes the year in November at the Palacio de Congresos y Exposiciones in León. In Castilla-La Mancha, Membra Fest, in Motilla del Palancar (Cuenca), usually falls in June, and in Madrid, Rio Babel, in Rivas Vaciamadrid, blends metal and punk in July.
