Indie festivals in Spain

Indie is one of the most widely spread styles on the calendar and, in most cases, shares the bill with pop. Madrid and Barcelona lead the way, but Navarre and the Balearic Islands come close behind, with festivals such as Festival EN VIVO at La Ciudadela in Pamplona and Mallorca Live Festival in Magaluf.

The season is a long one. July, June and August have the most dates, with Bilbao BBK Live at Kobetamendi and Sonorama Ribera at the Recinto El Picón in Aranda de Duero, but May, September and October still hold plenty of events: Warm Up opens in Murcia between April and May, and Ebrovisión brings the style to Miranda de Ebro in September.

The islands have a circuit of their own. Cranc holds editions in Menorca, Mallorca and Ibiza, while Palma adds Festival Mutante, at Motorworld Mallorca, and Es Gremi Sounds, in November. In the Canary Islands, Tenerife Peñón Fest takes place at the Parking Palmetum in October, and Festival Boreal, in Los Silos, in September.

The colder months have indie too. Cruïlla de Tardor fills Barcelona from October to December, Festival Santas Pascuas runs in Pamplona between October and January, and Festival Actual opens the year in Logroño, in January.

The crossover with folk defines another branch, more closely tied to towns and rural areas: PortAmérica at the Azucarera de Portas, Osa do Mar in Burela and Estaciones Sonoras in Cascante (Navarre), with one edition in spring and another in autumn.
